Automotive load floors

The next step in lightweight, thermoformable rigid load floors.

In the past 10 years, significant weight saving improvements for rigid load floors have been accomplished through material core changes. From wood to plastics to paper honeycomb, load floors have incrementally become lighter with each new material. Stratas™ is the next step of the load floor evolution.

Rigid load floors

As its name implies, rigid load floors are designed to provide a strong, flat surface to carry loads without extensive center support. The ideal load floor must be light, strong enough to pass deflection requirements and provide flexibility for component attachments.

Stratas™ load floors are the ideal solution. It is currently the lightest rigid floor material. Its high rigidity means no center support is required for spans up to 1.3m. Lastly, with a solid core, most components will attach to the substrate without additional reinforcement.

Substrate boards

Complete design freedom

Each layer of the Stratas™ load floor can be controlled to optimize weight around the cargo system design. If the load floor will be well supported underneath, each layer’s thickness and density can be reduced for additional weight savings. In designs where spans are large with no center support, the substrate can be customized to provide increased strength.

Easy to form

Stratas™ load floors can be manufactured with the most common thermoforming equipment, including headliner forming lines.

Thermoforming Stratas load floor

Large manufacturing footprint

Since substrate boards have very high pack density and only requires an oven and low pressure press to form, Stratas™ load floors can be produced by almost any company with thermoforming capacity.

Edge finish options

For better fit and finish, Stratas™ load floors can be formed with a variety of edge finishes, including reinforced edge, compressed edge, rolled edge and carpet wrapped edge.

Formed Stratas load floor trunk trim

Formed panels with trunk trim

To help meet Just-In-Time requirements, formed substrate boards with trunk trim integration can be delivered as an added cost option.

Assembled Stratas load floors

Partial or complete load floors

Partially or fully assembled load floors with latch handles, hinges, hooks and other component attachments can be integrated with trunk trim integration to provide greater flexibility.

Our dry adhesive technologies allow us to thermoform the finishing surface material during the lamination stage of production. The adhesives are always evenly distributed to create a very strong bond and prevents issues with edges peeling.

Additional weight savings with EPP cargo trays

By combining Stratas™ load floors with our EPP cargo trays, both the cargo tray and load floor’s design can be further optimized to achieve additional weight savings.
